Right after Thanksgiving we went down to Old Town Alexandria and watched them light the town Christmas tree with Jordan and Sydney. Honestly? It was a bit of a letdown after watching them light Temple Square year after year but at least it got us in the Christmas spirit.
Steve's mom came to visit a couple weeks before we went home and we packed the four days she was here as tightly as possible and ran on very little sleep. We went to Eastern Market, the Natural History Smithsonian, walked around the mall, visited the Pentagon Memorial, saw the monuments at night, ate dinner in Old Town Alexandria and saw the boats decorated for Christmas and did lots of Christmas shopping. It was so fun to have her here and to get out and do so much. Steve and Evan were studying for finals most of the time so James got to hang out with the girls.
And that was about all the fun that was to be had until after finals were over, at least for Steve. While he studied each day away I decorated our house and watched too many Christmas movies and ate too many Christmas treats all while trying to support him emotionally and keep James quiet during the night so Steve could get some much deserved rest.
We celebrated finals being done with a Thai food and ice cream date with my aunt and uncle. James had his first bite of ice cream and loved it. After he helped me finish my mint chocolate chip cone he stared down another customer as he walked by with his own scoop of mint chocolate chip. He is definietely his father's son.
The next day we visited Mount Vernon to see the house. They only open the third floor during the holiday season so we were glad we could go while it was open. That night we had our ward Christmas pajama party and then we packed the night away so that we could fly back to Utah the next morning!
And some pics of James because he is cute.
