Eastern Market and Capitol Hill

One of my favorite things to do in DC is visit Eastern Market on Saturday mornings. We always start off with breakfast at Market Lunch. They are famous for their Bluebuck (blueberry buckwheat) pancakes which Steve always get. I prefer their french toast however. Sometimes there is a really long line, but we've gone enough that we've figured out the best time to go. We went this past Saturday and the line was the shortest one we've waited in yet.  But no matter how long the line is the food is absolutely worth it. No pictures of the food though- we scarfed it down way too fast.

There is an indoor and an outdoor section at Eastern Market. The indoor section is open always but on Saturdays vendors come from all over to sell their wares. It is basically a huge farmers market/ arts and crafts market. There are always different fruits and veggies to try and buy and when it gets cold out they sell hot apple cider. My favorite.

James likes to go "fast" whenever he can. He is getting really fast these days. I can't keep up with him.

I love going at Christmas time because they sell Christmas trees and wreaths and it just smells so good. We didn't get a real tree this year since we won't be around to enjoy it once Steve's finals are finished. But there is nothing like the smell of fresh pine trees, especially ones that are destined to become Christmas trees.

The shopping is great too. Its a mix of vintage and handmade and there is something for everyone. I am always tempted by the vintage maps and the turkish towels. And the mounds of affordable jewelry are pretty enticing too.

Eastern Market is in the Capitol Hill area, behind the capitol building. The apartments in this area are so charming. I love just strolling the streets and imagining how fun it would be to live in one of them.

When James gets tired of going "fast" himself he makes Steve carry him and they go fast together. Steve is such a good dad.
